The Granite Games Cycle

The next Competition Class cycle kicks off on Monday, June 5th. Competition Class meets on…

Monday’s at CFMPLS from 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm

Tuesday’s at CFMPLS from 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm

Wednesday’s at CFMPLS from 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm

Thursday’s at CFMPLS from 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm

Saturday’s at CFMPLS from 8:00 am – 9:30 am

The Granite Games cycle will be a fourteen week long cycle (one week of ramp up, twelve weeks of training, and a one week deload). Although, the cycle will focus on preparing those athletes that wish to compete on the floor at Granite Games this cycle is not exclusive to the Competitive CrossFitter or the athlete competing at Granite Games. There are a bunch of aspects in this upcoming cycle that may peek your interest. If any of the below is of interest I highly recommend coming in and giving Competition Class a shot. I promise you, it’s not nearly as crazy as you may think. If you’re still unsure about making the commitment I encourage you to to shoot me (Paul Begich) a message on Facebook or an email.

Below or some things that athletes can expect to see throughout the course of the Granite Games Cycle.

1. Hero Workout Saturday’s

  • Every Saturday during The Granite Games Cycle we’ll be doing a Hero Workout. Expect these workouts to be difficult, challenging, but extremely rewarding. These Saturday sessions (like every day of Competition Class) are open to everyone! I highly encourage you to bring friends along to join in on the suffering. Reminder, Competition Class meets on Saturday mornings at 8:00 am at CrossFit Minneapolis.

2. Flow Sessions

  • During The Granite Games Cycle I’ll be doing some experimenting with a training protocol I haven’t touched much. By Flow Session I’m really talking about multiple modality aerobic capacity work. We’ll be working on improving our engine, however, we won’t just be doing rowing/running intervals. Oftentimes, these sessions will be against an extremely long clock where multiples metcons, lifting components, etc. are completed within the set time domain.

3. Skill Work

  • Skill work and practice is absolutely crucial to the overall development of athletes. Unfortunately, this is often the type of work athletes like the least. Skill work can be monotonous and mentally fatiguing. However, insane amounts of skill work volume can be put in without taxing the body too much. We’ll be working all of the gymnastics skills. And working them religiously at that. I can assure you that EVERYONE can get more efficient in ALL of the gymnastics movements. We’ll also be touching on the other modalities and working at improving efficiency in both the monostructural movements and the weightlifting movements. If we can improve efficiency in these modalities just marginally over the course of three months athletes will expend an exponentially less amount of work during workouts.

4. “Thursday” Night Lights

  • Being that the Online Qualifier runs through five weeks (three for individual/community and two for teams of three) of our cycle I’d like to give athletes the opportunity to perform the qualifier workouts together. We’ll continue to train on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday’s without paying much attention to what may or may not come up in that week’s qualifier. Then on Thursday’s the workout will be the scheduled qualifier workout. If you’re not planning on doing The Granite Games qualifier don’t let that deter you from coming in and getting a great workout with your pals.

These are just a few of the key differentiators to The Granite Games Cycle when compared to other Competition Class Cycles.

All athletes hoping to compete at The Granite Games will need to complete the Online Qualifier. Sign up for the Individual/Community Team Qualifier here. Sign up for the Team of Three Qualifier here.

Reminder, when registering as an individual please join the Union Fitness Community. Also, when registering a team of three please use the nomenclature “Union Fitness: [TEAM NAME]” when registering your team. It’s really cool when the entire Granite Games/CrossFit community notice our large Union Fitness following.

p.s. yes, we will also be getting strong AF during this cycle…
